Zina Mitchell has long been a member of the WWAV family. As we move into 2014, we are thrilled to announce that she will be transitioning into her new role as our resident Harm Reductionist and Outreach Worker.
Zina is a native of New Orleans, born and raised in the 7th Ward. She first connected with WWAV as a client and volunteer while still in the throes of her addiction, and has since become a core member of the staff team. As a person in recovery since 2008, Zina knows first hand what many of the people who come to WWAV are going through. Her primary goal is to show people who are still out there that there is an organization that cares, where they can get the support they feel they need without being stigmatized and judged. Through community outreach, harm reduction services, and advocacy, Zina works to bring hope to people throughout the city and to teach them how to fight for their rights. Due to the inspiration she has gained through working with WWAV, Zina was able to complete a CMA class and become a licensed PCA worker. She is currently furthering her education to become a social worker.
Please join us in extending a huge CONGRATS to Zina!!!
