WWAV is thrilled to announce that Shaquita Borden, our Director of Program Development, has just been awarded the Billy R. Cox Endowed Scholarship to support of her doctoral studies in Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Billy Cox grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. He was vice-president of his high school senior class and went on to earn a business degree. He contracted AIDS in the early 1990’s. In 1994, during the final six months of his life, he candidly shared his story in a series of articles that appeared in The Birmingham News.
Friends and admirers established the Billy R. Cox Endowed Scholarship to aid in the support of public health students who demonstrate an interest in public health issues for the gay, lesbian, bi and trans-gender populations.
