WWAV's Next Step in Tackling the Barriers to Support Faced by LGBTQ DV Survivors in New Orleans

WWAV is thrilled to announce that we will be undertaking a community-based assessment to determine the barriers to support and unique service needs of LGBTQ survivors of domestic violence in New Orleans.  This research will be supported by a $10,000 grant from the City of New Orleans.
—

Due to its expertise in community-based research, Women with a Vision has been granted $10,000 to conduct focus groups of LGBTQ victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, compile results of focus group findings, and attend meetings of the City’s Domestic Violence Advisory Committee and Sexual Assault Response Team in order to connect voices from LGBTQ survivors to the process of evaluating existing domestic violence and sexual assault initiatives.

Women with a Vision’s Director of Research and Evaluation, Shaquita Borden, will take the lead on conducting this community-based assessment. The funding is a part of the City of New Orleans’ Grants to Encourage Arrest and Enforcement of Protective Orders award program, under Office on Violence Against Women Award 2013-WE-AX-0017. Results of this assessment will enable the City to make targeted improvements to services for LGBTQ survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
