Since the fire, WWAV has been getting back to our roots.
We began twenty-two years ago as a street-based harm reduction outreach program, reaching into the communities hardest hit by HIV to provide people with the tools they needed to keep themselves safe. When our offices were destroyed in an aggravated arson attack in May 2012, we had no choice but to get back to those same streets to make sure that the folks who depend on us were taken care of.
Our network of gate keepers have become our eyes and ears across the city of New Orleans. From health education to harm reduction supplies, they make sure that our words and tools of empowerment are in the hands of those who need it most.
And we are also, quite literally, an organization without walls! The picture to the left is a view from the gutted interior of our new Vision House.
As we approach the one year anniversary of the arson attack, we are also eager to get some walls up at our new home. Please come out to our “Raising the Roof” fundraiser on April 25th to show your support!
