On November 15th, the health insurance marketplace reopened, and open enrollment will continue through February 15th, 2015. The 2010 Affordable Care Act (ACA) is an important step to affirming each person’s human right to health care and to ensuring our communities get the healthcare we need. This is important particularly for the marginalized communities that WWAV has worked with over the years — low-income women, women of color, formerly-incarcerated women, sex workers, domestic violence survivors, HIV + individuals, and LGBTQ communities — who all have traditionally had problems accessing mainstream healthcare and services.
WWAV will be holding information sessions in partnership with the City of New Orleans Department of Health, and supported through our work with Raising Women’s Voices, over the next few weeks, to share information about the open enrollment process and to offer enrollment assistance.
The ACA has the potential to extend coverage to many of the 47 million non-elderly uninsured people nationwide, including the 866,000 uninsured here in Louisiana. During our info sessions, representatives will available to answer any questions about enrollment and provide enrollment assistance and navigation.
Stop by WWAV’s office this Wednesday, December 10th for our next info session and to sign up for an Affordable Care Act health plan! Representatives from the City of New Orleans Health Department will be on hand to help you navigate the marketplace, educate you about different plans, answer your questions, and get you the info you need to get you and your family covered!
