WWAV is thrilled to announce that, with the support of the Office on Violence Against Women, we will be launching a new program on domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking for African American women and LBTQ women in New Orleans. Through this program, we will raise awareness and address stigma surrounding violence against African American women, provide twice monthly support to survivors, and advocate for culturally specific services across the host of violence intervention programs already available in New Orleans, all needs identified by participants in our Community Voices Project forums this summer.
The Office on Violence Against Women’s “Grants to Enhance Culturally and Linguistically Specific Services” program aims to create unique opportunities for community-based organizations to address the critical needs of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking victims in a manner that affirms a victim’s culture and effectively addresses language and communication barriers for the identified underserved population.
This is WWAV’s first federal grant since Hurricane Katrina.
