Women With a Vision is excited to be on the steering committee bringing you the US Human Rights Network‘s Human Rights Hearing and Gulf Coast Regional Meeting happening in New Orleans on October 24-25th, 2014. All events will be at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 5212 South Claiborne Avenue.
The human rights workshop and human rights tribunal will be held on Friday the 24th. The human rights workshop will take place in late afternoon and the tribunal in the evening.
- Come to the workshop and learn how to hold our government accountable to human rights laws and standards that include protections for racial discrimination, environmental justice, Indigenous rights, immigrant rights, access to water, and sustainable development.
- Attend the tribunal and hear the testimonies of Gulf Coast area residents whose basic human rights are being denied through the actions of government. The hearing will specifically gather information on human rights abuses prevalent or unique to the region from people directly impacted.
The regional meeting will be a full-day convening on Saturday the 25th. It is an opportunity for human rights and social justice advocates to come together to share experiences and strategies, to learn about human rights struggles in the region, and to discover opportunities to collaborate on new and existing projects.
