WWAV’s Executive Director Deon Haywood will be presenting at the FREE HER Legislative Advocacy Conference this August 4-5th, 2015 at the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute at Harvard Law School. She will be speaking on a panel covering legislative advocacy and political organizing based on the work of Women With a Vision.
This two-day conference brings justice involved women and allies together from across the country who are working on, or have worked on criminal justice reform legislation. The purpose of the conference is to share legislation that groups have been successful with and/or working on, and share how to organize around legislative advocacy. Also the overall goal is to begin connecting individual women and groups from across the country so that we all have a bird’s eye view of what we are all doing and how.
You can DONATE to the Free Her Justice Advocacy Conference and support formerly-incarcerated women, policy makers, and their allies healing and working to create change! Donate here: http://justiceashealing.org/donate/
Conference organized by Families for Justice as Healing (FJAH). FJAH was started in the federal prison for women in Danbury CT, and was brought by Andrea C. James upon her release. Since then FJAH has continued to organize formerly incarcerated women to work on criminal justice reform legislation and policy, and raising awareness of the mass incarceration of women and the impact on our children, families and communities.
