TODAY is the national day of action to honor the lives and uplift the stories of Black women and girls who are victims of state and structural violence. The invisibility of the violence that Black women face in local and national media has shown the need to elevate the ways that both race and gender intersect when it comes to ending systemic violence against all Black people and achieving real justice for impacted families and communities. To say #BlackLivesMatter is to demand that the voices and stories of ALL Black people are uplifted in our calls for justice.
Today in New Orleans, groups are raising the stories of Black women to break the silence around how they are impacted by state and structural violence locally. Join us today at 6:30pm outside the Treme Center (900 N. Villere), where we will hear from the families of women who have been lost to state and structural violence, women who themselves have been impacted by and survived this violence, and community groups working to end this violence.
