Abortion Access:

It’s a Matter of Justice and Dignity for All

As a reproductive justice organization, Women With a Vision, Inc. believes that abortion is a fundamental part of our equity and freedom, and it’s under attack.

The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing June Medical Services v. Russo, a case that will determine whether Louisiana will be allowed to shut down more abortion clinics. In November, Louisianans will vote on Act 447, a ballot measure seeking to strip our rights out of our state constitution - a step toward banning abortion completely and criminalizing doctors and people seeking abortion care.

The consequences of these measures would be felt disproportionately, and most severely, by Louisiana’s marginalized populations - low-income people, people of color, and other marginalized groups - who collectively seek the majority of abortions provided in Louisiana, and are already facing the most barriers to accessing abortion care. Louisiana has passed 89 abortion restrictions since abortion was made legal in Roe v. Wade - more than any other state in the country. Studies show that being denied abortion care pushes people into poverty, which, in Louisiana’s case, further enforces the socioeconomic inequities and structural discrimination within and beyond our healthcare system.

Our right to determine our own futures is not up for debate.

These are fights we have to win - but in order to build a better world for all of us, we need to dream bigger.

We won’t rest until we have:

  • Access to abortion in our own communities with support and respect.
  • Comprehensive reproductive health care for LGBQ, Trans, and non-binary people.
  • Justice for our families and futures.

We refuse further criminalization and to limit our fight to the crumbs left of legal abortion access.

Because this is about more than just rights. It’s about justice and dignity for all. We’re building power here in Louisiana to ensure that abortion is not just legal, but available - no matter who you are, where you live, or how much money you have.

Women With A Vision is fighting for a future where we all have the resources and support we need to live and care for ourselves and our families. This includes everything from fighting racial and gender inequities, to ending the criminalization and abuse of sex workers, to providing comprehensive sexual health education for all.

Our future is up to us.
