Women With A Vision Founders

The mission of Women With A Vision Inc. is to promote wellness and disease prevention for women and their families living at or below the poverty line through health education, early intervention strategies, and referrals to appropriate community resources.

As a key tenet of our organizational philosophy, WWAV employs outreach workers that are indigenous to the community they serve and who are committed to providing HIV/AIDS prevention education, counseling and testing services, substance abuse resources, health fairs, focus groups, and education on a range of women’s health needs, including reproductive and sexual health, cervical and breast cancer, and safer sex practices.

Street outreach workers are the link between the “streets” and the community and have become the mainstay of WWAV’s success in reaching at-risk and socially vulnerable communities.

source 300x225 About UsOne of WWAV’s primary strengths is its members’ dedication to building trust and relationships in the communities they work with.

The women WWAV works with are often distrustful of outsiders, particularly African-American women, who have experienced a history of exploitation at the hands of public health workers; and sex workers and intravenous drug users, who are particularly vulnerable to stigma, law enforcement violence and incarceration.

Women With A Vision has been featured in The Source Magazine and The Louisiana Weekly.  Additionally, Eve Ensler recognized and awarded WWAV for their work and outreach in the community in conjunction with the recent V-Day celebration in New Orleans.
